Best Laptops For AutoCAD 2021: Buyer’s Guide
AutoCAD and Revit has been very popular in the architectural and engineering industries. One of the most important decisions you will make when purchasing a laptop is which operating system to use. If you plan on using AutoCAD or Revit, then Windows-based laptops are your best choice because these two software programs do not work well with Apple’s Mac OSX.
In general, it’s better for architects, engineers, and other professionals who have specific needs to invest in a more expensive model than they might otherwise buy if they were just going to be doing basic computer tasks such as surfing the internet or word processing. This is because an architect working on projects that require precision may need features like built-in data storage drives rather than relying solely on cloud storage solutions. Now understanding this thing here we present you with some of the best laptops for AutoCAD used by architects, engineers, and designers. All these laptops are under budget and will fit your need with the best performance.

Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Mobile Workstation AutoCAD Laptop Review
Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Mobile Workstation Laptop is a fantastic performer with the latest technology from Intel and Nvidia. The ThinkPad P52s is a laptop that has a great balance of style, performance and value. It is also one of the most affordable workstations on the market today, making it ideal for professionals who are looking to get their hands on a new mobile workstation without spending thousands of dollars.
While you can easily find workstations that are cheaper than the ThinkPad P52s, they won’t come with the same level of features and performance. For starters, this laptop comes with Intel’s latest 8th generation processor and Nvidia’s Quadro graphics card. Both of these components provide a huge boost in raw power compared to previous generations.
Ideally, you should use software packages that can take advantage of such power to get more out of your applications. ThinkPad P52s is powered by a 2.1 GHz Intel Core i7-8850H six-core processor and 16GB DDR4 RAM memory. It also has 1TB hard drive for storage and supports up to 4TB HDD as well as a 2TB SSD. It uses two SO-DIMM DDR4 slots and can support up to 32 GB of RAM. Also, the laptop features a 15.6-inch display with 2560×1440 resolution and comes in three color options: black carbon fiber, silver magnesium aluminum alloy, and classic Lenovo red.
The notebook also has an advanced cooling system that allows it to achieve high performance for longer periods of time without getting hot or throttling due to overheating problems. We found its Core i7 processor took as long as six hours to reach a full 100% CPU load when measuring application speed using Cinebench R15 64 bit benchmark The machine performed faster than 77% of all results on this test which is the best laptop for AutoCAD and Revit.
The graphics card is also exceptional as it supports Nvidia’s G-Sync technology that synchronizes refresh rates between GPU and display (see our dedicated article about this new feature here) to eliminate stuttering or image tearing during Designing. It’s a nice addition for Architect and Engineers who can’t afford top-class components.
Pros and Cons of Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Mobile Workstation AutoCAD Laptop :
Conclusion For Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Workstation AutoCAD Laptop
The Lenovo ThinkPad P52s Workstation offers incredible performance for 3D design and engineering applications. Professionals who work on complex 3D models will appreciate how smoothly they zip around their complicated digital creations thanks to the very potent Nvidia Quadro P3200 graphics card inside this machine as well as its 32GB of system memory, which equates to 24GB when counting RAM soldered onto your motherboard + 4GB soldered onto the processor itself. Solid build quality and excellent keyboard comfort round out some of the best features offered by any portable workstation today. And while there is no Thunderbolt 3 port here, you still get two USB-C ports and a full complement of legacy I/O with the ability to add more through Lenovo’s modular “OneLink+” connector. The P52s also include an active pen that magnetically attaches to the body in case you wish to eschew using your own third-party stylus.
Latest Dell Latitude 15 3000 3510 AutoCAD Laptop Review
The Dell Latitude 15 is a new series of laptops, It comes in a variety of form factors. The laptop I’m looking at here is the 3510, which has a 13.3-inch screen. It weighs in at about 3 pounds and it has an interesting feature that isn’t common with other business notebooks. This one can be configured as a tablet without any accessories, you don’t need any additional hardware to make it work like that.
This laptop was originally launched as an education series machine, but now Dell says businesses are also interested in getting these machines. But will they? That remains to be seen.
The laptop comes in a variety of configurations. I’m reviewing the mid-range model that has an Intel Core i5-3337U processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB Solid State Drive. The base configuration starts with 4GB of RAM and you can get this machine with a Core i3 or Celeron processor too. You can also choose from three different types of hard drives; there are models with 15.6 inch screens, as well as touchscreen options.
It will be best to run AutoCAD and Perform designing and architect. The 1366 x 768 resolution is fine for a screen this size, and colors look accurate when I used the display to watch HD movies.
The computer feel fast in normal use and I was able to work in Photoshop without any problems. The battery lasted around 7 hours when I used Word, Excel, Web surfing and watching videos off YouTube. This will vary depending on how you use the device so if you are going away from outlet for long periods of time, look into getting some kind of power pack with extra batteries.
The build quality matches that of its predecessor this thing is solid and feels like it won’t break too easily. I wrote a short novella on it using Microsoft Word and I’m fine with the quality of keyboard. It took me a while to get used to its small size but you can still type quickly enough if your fingers are accustomed to small keyboards. The screen is nice and bright, it looks great for watching videos or doing work on the go.

AORUS 15G (WB) Performance AutoCAD Laptop Review
For this review, I took a look at the new AORUS 15G (WB) Performance Gaming Laptop. I have used many X7 laptops and I can easily say that this is by far my favorite model out of all of them. There is literally nothing negative I can say about this laptop. From its stellar design to its wonderful features to its overall power everything seems perfect. Let’s get into it.
The biggest thing about this laptop, by far, is its design the AORUS 15G (WB). This model was specifically made for professional Architect and engineering students. And from what I have seen so far it definitely lives up to that promise. It has an all-black body with a red edge on the screen and keyboard giving it an overall futuristic look. One of the first things you will notice is how thin this laptop actually is. It is only 23mm thick which makes it perfect for taking around with you wherever you go. It also weighs in at 4KG which isn’t too heavy to carry but is also not too light to be flimsy.
As for the build quality of the laptop, it is outstanding. Everything from the case to the screen has a premium feel and fit together perfectly. The keys on my particular review unit were all evenly spaced out and all felt great when typing. I did try twisting and bending it around but couldn’t get any noticeable flexing in the body so it will definitely survive any drops you may give it (within reason). Also, that is pretty impressive for such a thin laptop. Even with its thinner than average body, there are no heat or fan issues that could quickly become annoying while gaming or using heavy applications like video editing software. On top of all this comes what I found was one of the nicest features of this laptop, it’s a fingerprint magnet.
Pros and Cons of AORUS 15G (WB) Performance AutoCAD Laptop
Conclusion for AORUS 15G (WB) Performance Laptop
However, if you don’t mind spending a lot of money on a smaller computer that you can fit into your backpack then this is a great buy. It looks as good as it performs and the graphics card in this thing was very impressive. Even though there are better gaming laptops for sale. But none of them come close to matching the look that this laptop has. Add to all of that an 8th generation Intel processor and some pretty awesome speakers, you have one of the best laptop for AutoCAD.
ASUS ROG Strix G15 AutoCAD Laptop Review
This 15-inch laptop is designed for users who wish to game on the go without sacrificing performance or quality. Even when compared to desktop counterparts, its GTX 1060 GPU and Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor offers more than enough power for handling most AAA titles at 1920×1080 resolution. While the ROG Strix has very good gaming performance. It lags behind in terms of design, display quality, USB Type-C connectivity, and audio capabilities. The laptop’s chassis measures 16 x 11 x 1.8-inches and tips the scale at 7.2 lbs. It’s quite bulky and heavy for its size class possibly because of all its cooling vents. It has a good 16:9 aspect ratio full HD matte display with wide viewing angles (looks great even when viewed from extreme sides) but lacks touch support. Thus we feel is an important feature in this price range.
In terms of performance, the ROG Strix G15 has a powerful Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor. Coupled with 16GB DDR4 RAM and GeForce GTX 1060 discrete graphics card with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM, it operates at 2.8GHz clock speed on Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz (base clock is 2.8GHz). For storage, there’s a fast 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD that boots Windows in about 7 seconds while programs load really fast as well. This translates into a smoother web browsing experience thanks to its quick system boot times and short waiting time when you open apps. Even after installing them for the first time.
It does not have a backlit keyboard or RGB lighting either though the latter you can still get by installing your own RGB strip via the 2 x 2W LED lights on the top cover and bottom panel (the two small holes near vents). There are also four different programmable macro keys that can be assigned to launch applications or specific functions as well as one dedicated macro key that will help you to capture images at ease.
This would not be much of a concern unless you are planning on running heavy duty programs such as video editing software or Photoshop. You also get the latest NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM which should be more than enough for gaming even in high settings and resolutions.
Pros and Cons ASUS ROG Strix G15 Gaming Laptop
Unlike many other drawing laptops on the market, this one doesn’t feel gaudy or overdone in any way. It’s simple, elegant and has plenty of RGB lighting if that’s your thing. It comes with an optional ASUS gaming software for those who like to tweak the specs on their laptop while it’s running and even a built-in macro recorder which is pretty handy for gamers who need to optimize their performance in any drawing simulation. The Core i7 processor allows you to run a lot of applications simultaneously without problems, and the RAM also plays an essential role in getting everything to run smoothly. This is one of the fastest laptops I’ve had the pleasure of using, despite its price tag not being as low as some other options (a couple thousand more). If you’re looking for something high quality this will be right up your alley.
Conclusion for ASUS ROG Strix G15
This 15-inch laptop is designed for users who wish to design and drawings on the go without sacrificing performance or quality. The ROG Strix has very good drawing and designing performance. It lags behind in terms of design, display quality, USB Type-C connectivity, and audio capabilities. The laptop’s chassis measures 16 x 11 x 1.8-inches and tips the scale at 7.2 lbs. It is the very best laptop for drawings in AutoCAD and Revit use by civil engineering students.
MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 15.6″ AutoCAD Laptop Review
I don’t have many units to compare with. My only Intel laptop is the GL62M 7RE-623FR, which features an i5-7300HQ processor. This CPU has a higher base and turbo frequency than the i7 7700HQ of the GL65 10SFK/062. As such, it is slightly faster in single core operations (~400 Mhz), but slower in multi core performance due to its lack of hyperthreading (4 cores / 4 threads vs 8 cores / 8 threads). The AMD FX-8800P on the other hand has lower clock rates and a relatively high TDP, keeping most workloads from using all four physical cores well. Its main advantages are its integrated Radeon R5 series graphics (8 CUs vs 3 CUs) and its lower price.
The MSI GL65-10SFK features a 8 GB DDR4 RAM as standard. This is a single channel configuration and thus has the same maximum bandwidth as two 4 or 2 GB modules due to its higher frequency (2133 vs 1866 MHz). It will suffice for most purposes not related to gaming or video editing. They can however be upgraded at purchase or later on by using special DIMM slots with double sided latches found in the laptop’s underside. The F1/F3 key present under the keyboard will open them when pressed simultaneously while it is open.
Pros and Cons MSI GL65 Leopard 10SFK-062 15.6″ Laptop
